Cheras in Kuala Lumpur: verify the address and authority first
Cheras is a familiar name, but the address on your booking decides which authority applies, and the name alone does not.

Hi, I'd like to discuss professional-event planning support. Help needed: Not decided Event type: Not decided Event area: Kuala Lumpur, Cheras in Kuala Lumpur Date: Not decided Approx. attendees: Not decided Reference: EV-0941 / en Page: https://eventconsultant.com.my/en/areas/cheras-kl/
The short answer
Before you tell anyone that an event is approved, covered or inside Kuala Lumpur, write the full address from the venue and check it against the authority's own portal. A name such as Cheras is used for sites in Kuala Lumpur and may also appear in Selangor addresses, so the name settles nothing.
This page gives you a worksheet for that check. It makes no ruling on what any authority requires for your event.
Why the name is not enough
Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) is City Hall of Kuala Lumpur. Separately, the Majlis Perbandaran Kajang (MPKj) portal refers to Cheras, specifically Bandar Tun Hussein Onn, among the Selangor areas it administers.
Two authorities therefore appear in connection with places called Cheras. Which one applies to your address is a question for the venue and the authority, not something to infer from a familiar name or a postcode.
What to verify for Cheras in Kuala Lumpur
Each check is a question with who answers it.
- What is the full address on the booking, including the road, section or taman and the postcode? The venue answers in writing.
- Does DBKL confirm that this exact address falls within its area? Use DBKL's enquiry channels on its portal and record the date and the answer.
- If DBKL does not confirm, does MPKj or another Selangor council cover it? Use that council's own enquiry channel; do not guess.
- Does the venue use the name Cheras in its marketing for a site that is in a different authority's area? Compare its marketing name with the address on the contract.
- What does the responsible authority say about the approvals your event may need? Ask it directly, and keep any written answer; take legal questions to a qualified adviser.
- What is the exact entrance? Verify it on site and write steps, not times.
- Who holds the written confirmation and who may rely on it? Name one owner.
How this place differs from its neighbours for this decision
The distinct decision is the authority check, so the page's evidence is two portals rather than a route or a venue score. For a catchment decision see Kepong and Segambut; for an origin comparison see Wangsa Maju and Setapak.
To work out who owns local approvals for your event, use the local event-approval ownership planner. For the Kuala Lumpur coverage brief see Kuala Lumpur.
Reading the two authorities

Worked example · Fictional example
A fictional society checks an address
Fictional organisation and figures, for illustration only.
The Persatuan Fiktif Akauntan Komuniti books a hall described as being in Cheras. Its first announcement says the event is inside Kuala Lumpur.
Before sending it, the secretary copies the full address from the contract and asks DBKL to confirm it. The answer changes the announcement, and the secretary files the reply with the contract.

Handle it in-house, or bring in help?
Your team can usually handle this when
- The venue gives a full address and the authority replies promptly in writing.
- One person can keep the file and the date of each answer.
- No approval or public claim depends on the answer yet.
Outside planning help earns its fee when
- The address is close to a boundary or the venue's name suggests one authority while the contract suggests another.
- Announcements or permits have been drafted before the address was checked.
- Nobody owns the written confirmation and several versions circulate.
Want the address check run and filed?
An Event Blueprint can include an address and authority file, with each written answer recorded against its source and date, and a list of approvals to raise with the responsible authority. A project lead can run the enquiries and keep the file with the contract. Send the full venue address as it appears on the booking.
Questions organisers ask
Is Cheras in Kuala Lumpur or Selangor?
Both names are used. Check your exact address with the venue and the authority, as DBKL and MPKj both appear in connection with Cheras.
Can I tell attendees the event is in Kuala Lumpur?
Only after the address is confirmed. Write the venue's full address instead of relying on the name.
Does this page say which permits I need?
No. Ask the responsible authority directly and keep its written answer.
Is there a local office?
No office is claimed. Site visits and on-site arrangements are agreed for the particular brief.
