Local venue, supplier and approval evidence
Checking building-management approval for an office-based Selangor event
An event held in an office building often needs a decision from the building management, and no single permit list covers every property.
Opens WhatsApp with a draft you can edit before sending. Nothing is sent automatically.
Optional: send a short event brief
Every field can stay as Not decided. You review the full message before WhatsApp opens.

Hi, I'd like to discuss professional-event planning support. Help needed: Not decided Event type: Not decided Event area: Not decided Date: Not decided Approx. attendees: Not decided Reference: EV-1001 / en Page: https://eventconsultant.com.my/guides/local-event-planning/checking-building-management-approval-for-an-office-based-selangor-event/
The short answer
Ask the building management for its own approval route in writing, then track each question with an owner, the evidence you submitted and a confirmation status. Assume nothing is universal: each property sets its own rules.
This page lists no required permit. It gives the questions that find out what applies to your building.
The property-specific question list
Use the local event-approval ownership planner to assign each question an owner. The list below is the starting set; the building management may add its own.
- Who is the building management and who decides on use of common areas, lifts and loading bays?
- Is a written request or form needed, and what must it contain?
- Does the tenancy agreement or house rules limit gatherings, guests, signage or after-hours use?
- Do suppliers need to be registered or accompanied by the building management?
- Which questions, if any, does the building management send to others, such as the owner or an insurer?
What to verify for Selangor properties
Each check is a question with who answers it.
- Which council covers the property? Selangor is split among councils: MBPJ covers Petaling Jaya and MBSA covers Shah Alam on their own portals, and other areas have their own, so confirm from the full address. Answered by the building management and the council.
- Does the council portal list licensing or building matters relevant to the use? MBPJ lists licensing guidance and building-management and OSC online systems, and MBSA lists licensing and OSC 3.0 Plus; whether any applies to your event is for the council to say. Answered by the council.
- What does the building management need as evidence, such as a programme outline or supplier list? Answered by the building management.
- Who confirms in writing, and is the confirmation tied to a date and a space? Answered by the building management.
Where this page stops
This page does not decide whether any approval is legally required, and it gives no safety or structural conclusion. Those answers come from the building management and the competent authority. Capacity and layout evidence sits in separating stated capacity from approved layout; the area view is Selangor.
Worked example · Fictional example
A fictional regional HQ event
Fictional organisation and figures, for illustration only.
A fictional logistics company plans an all-day briefing in its own office floor. The administrator sends the five questions above to the building management and logs each reply.
Two answers arrive in writing, one is "to be confirmed by the owner", and the status sheet shows it as open until it is. All details are illustrative.
Use this yourself
Building-management confirmation log
One row per question. Status is open, asked, confirmed in writing or not applicable.
| Question | Owner (who answers) | Evidence submitted | Status and date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Approval route for common areas and lifts | Building management | ||
| Tenancy or house-rule limits on the use | Building management / landlord | ||
| Supplier registration or escort | Building management | ||
| Council licensing or building question, if any | Council named from the full address | ||
| Written confirmation, tied to date and space | Building management |
Handle it in-house, or bring in help?
Your team can usually handle this when
- A small internal gathering in space your own organisation leases, with a responsive building contact.
- The building management already publishes its request route.
Outside planning help earns its fee when
- External guests, suppliers or equipment are involved and the building gives unclear answers.
- Several parties, such as landlord, management and council, each answer part of the question.
Want the approval questions tracked for you?
A project lead can send the question list to the building management, chase the written confirmations and keep the status log current. This sits inside an Event Blueprint or an agreed project-lead scope. It does not replace advice from the building management or a competent authority. Send the address, the programme and the supplier list.
Questions organisers ask
Is there a standard permit for office events?
This page assumes none. Each building and council states what applies.
Who decides whether an approval is legally needed?
The council or competent authority, not this page or the organiser.
What if the building management will not answer in writing?
Record the verbal answer with the name and date, and mark the line as not confirmed.
Is there a local office?
No office is claimed. On-site arrangements are agreed for the particular brief.
